This is like two separate walks that start from the same place, the outskirts of the city of Canberra. You could decide to do one or the other one, or both, as I did.
Where the track starts there is quite an ample area to park cars. After only a few metres it splits, left to Black Mountain and right to Little Black Mountain.
We decide to go for Black Mountain first. The track is fairly steep from very early and all the way to the top. It has been paved with concrete, I guess to make it easier to walk and also to reduce erosion, since this must be quite a popular track.
At the top there is a big telecommunications antenna but not views. There are too many trees so don't expect nice views of the city.
Mention that you can drive your car to the top, although what's the point if there are no views?
We go down pretty much to the car park and start the ascent to Little Black Mountain.
After 100 metres on the track, it splits and makes a big loop. We decide to make it clockwise. I found this part more enjoyable and also less steep than Black Mountain. After about 1.2 kilometres we get to the top. Again, no great views, too many trees. On my way down I saw a Wallaby.
