Easy walk to the top of the highest mountiain in Australia, Mount Kosciuszko (2228 m).
My initial plan was very different, I wanted to hike several of the mountains around, but after checking the options, what is open in winter, roads closed, conditions, etc I decided to go for the easy route, the Kosciuszko walk, and leave the Main Range walk for the summer.

Kosciuszko walk starts from the Kosciuszko Chairlift top Station by the Eagles Nest Restaurant. For the first few meters you follow one of the ski slopes up until you make a right and get off track.

There is a metal platform all the way to the summit and also poles marking the way for most of the track. You won't see any more poles for the last 1.6 Kms. Also keep in mind that in winter the metal platform is covered in snow, so your best bet is to follow your gps.

At about one kilometer from the last pole you get to a saddle where you make a left turn and face the last 800 meters to the top. The hike is never difficult or too steep and in no time you will be at the top.

Some facts:
- You need to pay 28 AUD per day for every day you are at Thredbo. I believe you can avoid this by starting from the other side of the mountains.
- To get the Kosciuszko Chairlift you need to pay 55 AUD from the ticket office, where you also need to register your intentions and they check that you have all the required gear: PBL (Personal Locator Beacon), warm clothes, snow shoes, ...
I didn't have snow shoes and I was able to rent them from there for 62 AUD.
