The Tākaka Hill hike starts at the car park available next to the road. When you start walking be careful not to follow the track that you see in front of you, the one that goes uphill. It looks like it's the correct way but the correct way is indeed going to the right towards the 4WD gravel road and the forest. So when you are looking at the signpost from your car go to your right, or even easier, just follow this track on your GPS device.

This is quite an easy and short walk, only 3 Km, since it only goes up the Tākaka Hill summit and back again following the shortest possible path. There are other variations that you can take to make a loop and make the walk a bit longer. See the photo below with the title "Signpost at the start of the walk". The car park is where it says "You are here" and the summit is where it says "Highest Point".
At the Tākaka Hill summit you will find some antennas and nice views of the surroundings.
