This track goes up to the top of The Pinnacles (773 m), following the Kauaeranga Kauri Trail which is an official track from the Department of Conservation New Zealand (DOC).
The track starts at the road end car park, where there is also a campsite and some toilets. Some other campsites are also on the way to this place. This is quite a popular track so you will find lots of people going up and down.
I read in the Department of Conservation New Zealand (DOC) website that it used to be a historic packhorse route during the kauri logging era in the 1920s. There are steps that were cut into the rock to make the journey easier for the packhorses. These rocks can get pretty slippery when wet.
Another thing that makes this route a bit more fun is the multiple swing bridges that you will be crossing.
At about 6 kilometers you will get to the Pinnacles Hut. From the hut to the summit is a bit less than a kilometre, although quite steep. At about 100 meters before reaching the top you will encounter some ladders and some staples attached to the rock to help you on your way up.
At the summit there is a platform where to enjoy the views.
