Circular walk from Stirling point to the summit of Motupōhue and back through the lookout point.
Although there is plenty of space to park your car at Stirling point keep in mind that this is a very touristic spot and can get busy at high season. After taking a few pictures at the famous pole we start our hike by taking the first signpost to the right indicating the summit and the gun battery. 400 meters ahead you will find the battery observation post and a bit further the gunpit camp.
Continue ascending a couple more kilometres inside the bush and you will arrive to the summit where you can enjoy great views 360 degrees. On one side you have Bluff and on the other one you have perfect views of Stewart island and the Foveaux strait.
From here is all downhill until you get to the lookout point where again there are great views of Stewart island.
From this point we have another 3 km flat walking along the coast until we arrive back at Stirling point.

You can also get to the summit by car but you will miss everything that this hike has to offer.

After the hike you can enjoy some fish and chips, and really fresh blue cod, at Galley takeaways or some of the famous oysters at Fowler's Wild Bluff Oysters.
